Midwinter Must-Dos

It’s Midwinter, my favorite of the ALA conferences: shorter lines for coffee, a real chance to meet up-coming authors, and tons of meetings! I don’t mind the last one because it’s nice to meet folks in-person with whom I exchange emails all year long. Below find my recommendations for Midwinter activities you don’t want to miss:

  • your divisions’s multitude of social gatherings. Go to these. Many are held in cool, off-the-beaten-path bars and restaurants. They are a great way to keep in touch with your colleagues and profession. Some have free drinks.
  • This amazing outreach: hot rods and librarians
  • Terry Brooks and other authors at the ERT/Booklist Author Forum Friday at 4pm
  • Chances to meet Nikki McClure whose work is so many kinds of awesome
  • Job seeker opportunities, without the crowds
  • The exhibit hall is not as flashy,  but it’s less crowded, has better swag at Midwinter, and attendees often get sneak peeks not available any other time

Enjoy Midwinter and watch your tequila intake!
